Transposing American First-Year Seminars to a European university : introducing a step-by-step FYS design methodology synthetizing an extensive literature on FYE

The University of Liège has developed an original protocol to support faculty in creating catalogs of Academic First-Year Seminars with Various Topics across Sections (AFYSVTS), transposing a first-year program widely implemented in American universities to facilitate the transition to higher education. Based on an extensive review of the literature on FYS, the phases of the overall support system, which combines group workshops and individual meetings, will be presented through the POCPIM RIER acronym, an adaptation of instructional design models like ADDIE for AFYSVTS planning. The presenters will discuss the theoretical foundations, implementation process and tangible outcomes within two study programs.
