Abstract :
[en] Introduction : The educational evironment is defined as everything that happens physically and psychologocally in the classroom, the institution and is essential to academic outcomes. This environment influences student outcomes and academic success. There is little data in the literature concerning the educational environment in osteopathy. The present study aims at assessing the perception of the educational environment by the student body of CEESO Paris. Materials : The DREEM questionnaire was completed in october 2018 by the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th-year students from CEESO Paris. The questionnaire was completed by additional information: age, sex, physical activity, year repetition, promotion, student job, school career, daily travel time. The mean scores were interpreted with the DREEM questionnaire authors’guide and then analysed with one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by a comparison of mean scores with Student 3 test. Results : 133 students out of 188 (70,75%) participated in the study. The total mean score was 132,72 out of 200, which indicated relative satifaction with the perceived environment. Two items -support system for stressed students and well managed timetable- from the DREEM questionnaire scored poorly, less than 2 out of 4. Eleven items -including stimulating teaching, competent teachers, good preparation for a career in osteopathy, development of the competences- scored well, more than 3 out of 4. Conclusion : The survey conducted with the DREEM tool revealed that the educational environment at CEESO Paris appeared to be more positive than negative for the students. The figures obtained in this survey are comparable to those obtained in other study in Europe (comparison between AIOT Italy, BSO UK, and CEESO Paris France) and Australia (VU, Melbourne). The survey highlighted some points of concerns -support system for stressed students and well managed timetable- which were also problematic in the compared studies. It also highlighted significative factors influencing negatively the mean scores, suc as student job beside the studies, year repetition, and a lack of physical activity. The survey revealed quite a few positive points such as stimulating teaching, competent teachers, a good preparation for a career in osteopathy.
