Abstract :
[en] The play takes place in a black district of Pittsburgh in 1904 and focuses on the tutelary figure of Aunt Ester (who is as old as slavery in North America) and a young black worker, who feels responsible for the death of a fellow worker and wants his soul washed. Translating it was a challenge because of the specific African American vernacular used throughout by almost all characters and its historical and political connotations. The outcome can never be quite satisfactory, but we hope to have captured something of the magic in the play.
