Abstract :
[en] Strychnos innocua is frequently cited in African traditional medicine. Root bark has been chemically screened.A small amount of alkaloids was detected as well as loganic acid. The plant contains at least two alkaloids that are devoid of an indole skeleton. The authors suggest that they are monoterpenic and not very different from gentianine. However the products would not be artefacts because ammonia was not used for alkalinization before the extraction
Commentary :
The MS of one alkaloid was 149 and similar to the molecular weight of venoterpine, a monoterpenic alkaloid found later in Strychnos dinklagei (1982) and in Strychnos pungens (1996). It would be interesting to check this hypothesis.
