[en] The ASCOP approach, developed by the Department of General Practice at the University of Liège, aims to place people’s life goals at the centre of healthcare decisions. In the context of ageing populations, chronic diseases and increasingly complex care pathways, it encourages healthcare professionals to move beyond a disease-centred approach and build care around what truly matters to each person.
By promoting shared decision-making, patient partnership and interdisciplinary collaboration, ASCOP helps align treatments and care plans with patients’ values, preferences and aspirations. Its practical tools support professionals in identifying life goals, translating them into meaningful care objectives and coordinating care around a shared vision.
