Abstract :
[en] This chapter provides an overview of the principle of microwave-assisted extraction in different fields of applications. A brief introduction to the historical development of microwave is provided before entering more technical aspects related the laboratory instruments (configuration of the equipment, such as magnetron, waveguides, resonance cavities, etc.) and the important parameters in method optimization (i.e., solvent selection, sample size, extraction time and temperature). The main advantages of microwave-assisted extraction are explained and highlighted in different fields of application, namely environmental, food, and clinical analysis. Finally, the role of microwave-assisted extraction in the perspective of green chemistry will be discussed.
