Abstract :
[en] In African societies, traditions and social norms strongly shape gender relations. Among the moose of Burkina Faso, these norms define the social roles of women and men, influencing their access to resources, education, and justice. In a context of political, economic, and cultural transformations, it is crucial to examine how these changes reconfigure gender relations and women’s strategies of empowerment. This paper analyzes the social roles attributed to women and men in moose society, highlighting the tensions between traditions, social norms, and contemporary aspirations for equality. It explores how these dynamics affect women’s access to justice and fundamental rights. The study is based on a qualitative approach, combining semi-structured interviews, field observations, and thematic analysis of life stories. It adopts an anthropological and gender- sensitive perspective, attentive to local voices and situated knowledge. Findings reveal that despite the persistent weight of customary norms, women develop strategies of resistance and empowerment, particularly through education, local associations, and community mobilization. These dynamics contribute to reshaping social relations and open pathways toward more inclusive justice.
