Abstract :
[en] To assess the level of aphid resistance in wheat varieties from the Huang-Huai-Hai wheat region, 154 primary wheat varieties were evaluated over two consecutive years in both field trials at the adult stage and laboratory bioassays at the seedling stage. A comprehensive evaluation of aphid resistance were carried out, and the resistance type of aphid-resistant wheat varieties was preliminarily identified through the construction of Sitobion miscanthi age-stage two-sex life tables on resistant wheat varieties. The results of the two-year field evaluation identified five wheat varieties with stable aphid resistance: Hanmai 6172, Jimai 21, Shunmai 1718, Zhongmai 2 and Fengwu 981, counting for 3.759% of the total materials. No immune or highly resistant wheat varieties were identified. Additionally, 87 wheat varieties were classified as consistently aphid-susceptible, accounting for 65.414% of the tested materials. At the seedling stage, 39 aphid-resistant wheat varieties were identified, accounting for 25.325% of the total materials. Among these, Hanmai 6172 exhibited high resistance, nine wheat varieties (e.g., Hanmai 13, Jimai 13, Luomai 6) showed moderate resistance, and 29 wheat varieties (e.g., Fengwu 1718, Yumai 21, Jingdong 12) showed low resistance. Comprehensive analyses of field trials and laboratory bioassays showed that Shunmai 1718 and Hanmai 6172 consistently displayed stable resistance to aphids. Aphids feeding on Hanmai 6172 and Shunmai 1718 exhibited significantly lower intrinsic and finite rates of increase, net reproductive rates and mean generation time compared to those feeding on Nongda 399. This suggests reduced survival rate and fecundity of aphids on these resistant varieties. Overall, the results demonstrate that wheat production in the Huang-Huai-Hai region remains predominantly reliant on aphid-susceptible varieties, with a minimal proportion of aphid-resistant wheat cultivars. The resistant varieties Hanmai 6172 was shown to possess antibiosis resistance to aphids.
