Abstract :
[en] Faced with the challenges of the Anthropocene, and after a rather instrumental and utilitarian phase, digital technology in education is, in our view, seeking to enter a humanistic phase (Chiardola, Céci, Heiser, 2021), aiming to achieve results in students' civic engagement through the use of pedagogy. Therefore, digital technology in education is not deaf to scientific reports that converge on the idea of an urgent change in our lifestyles (Wallenhorst, 2022), including our use of digital technology. Nor is it deaf to new narratives encouraging each citizen to develop new practices for environmental protection, as well as a more reflective attitude implied by communication surrounding ecological sobriety. Schools are thus experiencing a new imperative to train future citizens in sustainability, particularly in digital sobriety and the digital transition. However, it is clear that the framework is not yet defined and that, in practice, supporting teachers in problematizing new teaching situations facilitated by digital technology cannot be taken for granted. Within the context of our research, and also given our position within the institution, the challenge lies in giving pedagogical substance to this form of digital sobriety. This cannot be considered without taking into account the ethical dimension and the philosophical foundation of digital sobriety. From this starting point, we propose, firstly, to imagine a didactic and pedagogical approach, centered on classroom activities that utilize and illustrate research data and the challenges of the Anthropocene, in collaboration with teacher trainers and those entering the profession. Furthermore, beyond the heuristic research on education, these activities will also generate data that situates this approach within a three-pronged framework of action research for education (with a transformative aim), through education (with an emancipatory aim), and finally, with education with a participatory aim. Methodologically, the fieldwork revolves around digital training for trainee and newly qualified teachers in the Nice Academy and is situated at the intersection of educational sciences and information and communication sciences. This training is based on a tool called “forms of digital caution,” which we are using as a model here, expanding it with the following six levels, arranged in a positive gradation of well-being: See Figure 1: Pyramid of Digital Caution versus Well-being. We will clarify the theoretical foundations of this tool by describing its origins through the lens of the philosophies of great thinkers such as Cicero, Aristotle, and Comte-Sponville (2018), as well as those of technology scientists, demonstrating that prudence and (digital) well-being are intrinsically linked. Our presentation will thus explore these foundations and a taxonomy of six forms of digital prudence, presented as descriptive tables containing the resulting forms of well-being and ill-being, as well as suggested resources for both training (comprehensive approach) and classroom experimentation (collaborative approach). We believe this approach can provide avenues for reflection, encouraging pedagogical expansion (Céci, 2020) and thus the implementation of strategies for preserving well-being and minimizing ill-being in the Anthropocene era.
