Abstract :
[en] Municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) bottom ash, traditionally considered a low-value by-product, is being reimagined through accelerated carbonation. This process improves its physical and chemical stability, enabling its use as a sustainable aggregate in concrete. The carbonated MSWI bottom ash exhibit enhanced density, and improved compatibility with cementitious matrices. Incorporating this material into concrete not only diverts waste from landfills but also contributes to carbon sequestration. This study highlights the potential of carbonated MSWI bottom ash to replace natural aggregates in non-structural applications, promoting circular economy principles and reducing the environmental footprint of concrete production.
