[fr] Plasticien, enseignant, cinéaste, Manu Gomez est à l’origine d’une œuvre ludique et inventive dans laquelle les références artistiques et la recherche conceptuelle côtoient l’humour potache. Située du côté de l’expérimentation subversive, son œuvre cinématographique se caractérise par un intérêt pour l’exploration de la matière au sens large : ses films reflètent le regard du plasticien qu’est d’abord leur auteur, tout autant qu’ils témoignent d’une obsession pour la représentation d’une certaine organicité—celle du corps, de ses humeurs, de ses tréfonds. Ses recherches artistiques le mèneront à animer des matériaux aussi divers qu’inattendus, du marbre au papier hygiénique, en passant par la viande. Chez Gomez, « rien ne se perd, rien ne se crée, tout se transforme ». [en] Manu Gomez is a visual artist, teacher and filmmaker who has created a playful, inventive body of work in which artistic references and conceptual research rub shoulders with schoolboy humour. His cinematographic work is characterised by an interest in exploring matter in the broadest sense of the term. His films reflect the eye of the artist who is first and foremost their creator, just as much as they bear witness to an obsession with the representation of the body, its fluids, its depths. His artistic research has led him to animate materials as diverse as they are unexpected, from marble to toilet paper and meat. For Gomez, "nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed". This interview with the Belgian artist-animator is an opportunity to explore a filmography that mixes, twists and recycles references to fine art, literature and fairy tales.
