Abstract :
[en] This course provides an introduction to the essential role of mathematical optimization in the sizing and operation of energy systems. After a theoretical overview of the concepts, participants will be presented with the GBOML modeling tool, a graph-oriented tool for dealing with these problems. This course is divided into four parts: firstly, we explain the problem of sizing and operation with examples in order to get an intuitive understanding; secondly, participants are introduced to mathematical optimization, in particular Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP); thirdly, a presentation of GBOML and different modeling tools are provided, both in terms of performance and features; and finally, a hands-on tutorial is provided to put the learned concepts into practice. By the end of this course, participants will have gained a better understanding of mathematical optimization and its application to energy systems, as well as the ability to use the GBOML modeling system to create and analyze their own models.
