Abstract :
[en] Born in the interwar period, Raymond M. Lemaire would have been 100 years old in 2021. Active from the aftermath of the Second World War until the mid-1990s, he was an important actor in the evolution of principles and practices in a period marked by the transition from monuments to heritage and the globalization of debates. His very rich archives allow an intimate look at the major stages of this evolution. In this short article, we consider, through his experiences, the beginnings of internationalization in the 1940s and 1950s until the foundation of ICOMOS, the drafting of the Venice Charter, the establishment of integrated conservation and the drafting of the Nara Document.
