[en] The present study describes the phytochemical profile Antioxidant and cytotoxicity activity of
Lavandula dentata essential oil, collected in eastern Morocco (Taforalt). The sample of
essential oil was obtained from the aerial parts of the plant by hydrodistillation and analyzed
by GC–MS.
The in vitro cytotoxicity of the oil on the cancer cell lines PC-3 (prostate), V79 (fibroblaste)
and normal P388D1 (murine macrophage) was examined. We have shown that the oil had
negligible cytotoxic effects against all cell lines tested.
The oil was also found to possess antioxidant activity as demonstrated by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-
picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical method.
Lavandula dentata essential oil has promising potentials for incorporation into various food,
cosmetic and pharmaceutical products for which a natural aroma, colour, antioxidant and
antimicrobial additive is desired.
