Unveiling the organisational identity: a spatial approach based on the office. The case of ORES Picardy Wallonia transition towards an activity-based workspace
[en] The thesis studies how the transformation of the office influences the construction of an organisation’s identity. More specifically, this research focuses on the introduction of an activity-based workspace, and investigates how the transition towards this new work environment alters the ways of being and of working, and workers’ perceptions of their organisation’s identity. In order to address this question, this thesis is based on a qualitative empirical research in which data were collected through semi-structured interviews, documentary analysis, and observation. Thanks to this empirical design, this thesis shows that the transition towards an activity-based workspace challenges an organisation’s identity, and might result in a fragmentation of the organisational identity among workers, depending on their work identity. [fr] La thèse étudie comment la transformation du bureau influence la construction de l'identité d'une organisation. Plus spécifiquement, cette recherche s'intéresse à l'introduction d'un espace de travail basé sur l'activité et investigue comment la transition vers ce nouvel espace de travail altère les façons d'être et de travailler, ainsi que les perceptions qu'ont les travailleurs de l'identité de leur organisation. Afin de répondre à cette question, cette thèse est basée sur une recherche empirique qualitative au cours de laquelle les données ont été collectées au travers d'entretiens semi-directifs, d'analyse documentaire, et d'observation. Grâce à ce design empirique, la thèse montre que la transition vers un espace de travail basé sur l'activité met à l'épreuve l'identité d'une organisation, et est susceptible de résulter en une fragmentation de l'identité organisationnelle au sein des travailleurs et ce, selon leur identité professionnelle.
