Abstract :
[en] The first part of this report describes the "Bailey-Moore" design equation for considering the beneficial effect of tensile membrane action in the fire situation, first by a general overview, second by commenting the developments in detail, finaly by the way it has been adapted in the FRACOF method. The results of the FRACOF method, obtained from the software MACS+, are then compared to numerical results obtained with the advanced calculation model implemented in the software SAFIR for 6 geometries in which the amount of reinforcing steel has been varied as a parameter. SOme conclusions are given about the reality of the tensile membrane action, the Bailey-Moore simple method, the FRACOF method and the numerical simulations. SOme likely problems identified in the simple methof are described in an annex.
