[en] The aim of this paper is to propose an analysis of the cartoon and its place in popular culture from two different yet connected angles: the idea of "pop culture", linked to mass culture and its critique/analysis by Adorno & Horkheimer and Benjamin ; and the idea of "folk culture", linked to the notion of grotesque as it is developped by Bakhtin. The main idea is that those two paths of analysis are connected through the notion of ambivalence and their link to political conceptions of a particular society and the culture that emerges from it.
