Abstract :
[en] The linearized study of pre-stressed structures is, by far, not a novelty. But its practical application led to a lot of disappointments, especially concerning rigid body modes, so that it seemed useful to try a restatement of this subject. After an exposition of the principles of this formulation, the attention is focused on the numerous simplifications which are commonly done, by tradition or for sake of simplicity. This study is illustrated by a lot of examples whose purpose is an aid for the physical understanding of the problem.
