Abstract :
[en] The gradient method, often used in design against fatigue, is analyzed from the point of view of its link with fracture mechanics. By a logical step, a law is deduced for the variation of the endurance limit in terms of the relative stress gradient. The proposed expression is found to be in good agreement with older ones and may easily be extended to a large class of materials.
