[en] Prof Charcot, in France, made during the 19th century one of the first descriptions of multiple sclerosis. Since then, several physiopathological links and new treatments have been described for this auto-immune neurological pathology.
This presentation is designed for neurologists, but in keeping an endocrine point of view . We emphasize multiple sclerosis connections with the stress axis (ACTH and cortisol hormones), the phosphocalcic metabolism (vitamine D deficit and supplementation) and the somatotropic axis (GH and IGF1 hormones).
We review all the multiple sclerosis and neuroendocrine papers published in the English literature until 2010. We further critically analyzes some endocrine links supporting new perspectives of treatment in multiple sclerosis patients.
