[en] Assessment of chronic pain is one of medicine's most difficult challenges. A structured and flexible multidisciplinary approach allows full characterisation of the various components of the pain syndrome. This then allows the use of a rational combination of pharmacologic, physical, psychological, and surgical techniques. It is essential to gain the patient's confidence, collaboration, and compliance. Patients can better manage their situation when their needs are clarified and when care is oriented toward concrete therapeutic objectives. [fr] L'évaluation d'une douleur chronique est un des actes médicaux les plus difficiles. Une approche pluridisciplinaire cohérente et souple permet de déterminer les diverses composantes du syndrome douloureux chronique et de proposer une combinaison d'approches thérapeutiques pharmacologiques, physiques, psychologiques et/ou chirurgicales. Un bilan complet avec réévaluation du diagnostic initial permet d'adapter la thérapeutique. Il est indispensable d'obtenir la confiance, la coopération et l'adhésion du patient. Clarifier la demande et orienter la prise en charge vers des objectifs thérapeutiques concrets permet aux patients d'acquérir une meilleure gestion de leur problématique douleur.
