Abstract :
[en]
Spring, W. Bulletin de la Classe des Sciences, Academie Royale de Belgique (1880), 49(2), 323-79; SciFinder (Chemical Abstracts Service: Columbus, OH); https://scifinder.cas.org (accessed July 8, 2010). Researches on the welding of solid bodies induced by pressure are presented. The capacity of metals to weld into compact masses under high pressure is inversely proportional to their hardness; and since hardness diminishes with rise of temperature, it may be assumed that the property in question will increase with rise in temperature in metals the more they soften when heated. The solid state of aggregation depends not only on temperature, but also on pressure, without elevation of temperature, and a high degree of plasticity. High pressure is an important factor in chemical action. Reprinted with the permission of the American Chemical Society. Copyright © 2010. American Chemical Society (ACS). All Rights Reserved.
