Abstract :
[en] High Speed Counter Current Chromatography (HSCCC) has been used to isolate and purify two quaternary alkaloids from a sample of curare prepared by the Panare Indians of Estado Bolivar, Venezuela. One of the compounds is the known base Macusine B. The other one is a new but related base named panarine. Its structure has been established unequivocally by spectral and X-ray cristallographic analysis.
