Abstract :
[en] The course highlights communication in healthcare as a fundamental clinical skill, not just a soft skill. It aims to improve diagnostic accuracy, treatment adherence, patient safety, and overall health outcomes in complex, human-centered systems. Each healthcare encounter is seen as a dynamic process involving information exchange, relationship building, and emotion management. Healthcare communication often relies on acronyms and mnemonics, which can oversimplify complex clinical realities and distract from true understanding. Although tools like SBAR, SOAP, and FAST aim to save time and minimize errors in stressful situations, they can also pose risks by reducing care to a checklist, undermining narrative, and causing alienation and confusion. The course adopts formal formulations when suitable. Effective communication is presented as an evidence-based approach that transforms fragmented interactions into meaningful improvements in care quality and equity.
