[en] The silvicultural field experiments of Fernelmont 1 et 2 were installed in even-aged native oak stands planted late 1986 (Fernelmont 1) and 1990 (Fernelmont 2) at relatively high density: respectively 2500 seedlings/ha and 5000 seedlings/ha.
These experiments were designed to compare different initial candidate-trees (CT) density and to assess the optimal final target-trees (TT) density in the context of a dynamic tree-oriented forestry. We are thus testing a very early candidate trees selection followed by strong and regular tree-oriented thinning to maximize individual tree growth and quickly produce harvestable target-trees.
This document summarizes the development of these field experiments from their installation through the year 2020.
