Abstract :
[en] Introduction: In clinical phenomenology, the experience of the encounter and the clinician's subjectivity play a central role. Their diagnostic and therapeutic implications are also important topics. In this context, the best-known theoretical formalisation is the Praecox Gefühl (or praecox feeling), a type of experience felt by the clinician, supposedly linked to the encounter with individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. A 1980 study by Otto Dörr-Zegers and Hubertus Tellenbach identified a type of experience thought to be typical of encounters with individuals experiencing a melancholic crisis; this phenomenon is far less well-known. Until now, this research publication had not been translated into French. Methods: We obtained the research publication from the journal Der Nervenarzt. We then sought to introduce the text to a French-speaking audience (part 1) and translate the text into French (part 2). Results: The translated publication discussing the melancholy feeling gives French-speaking readers insight into the typical feelings experienced by clinicians when encountering melancholic patients. It also provides a description of the phenomenological differential characteristics between melancholic depressivity and epileptic depressivity. Discussion: This work contributes to the ongoing development of new possibilities in research and clinical practice, particulary regarding the phenomenological approach to clinical issues beyond schizophrenic experience. The latter has always been the main focus of the phenomenological tradition in psychiatry. This work also contributes to the progressive development of research on clinician's subjectivity. Conclusion: Clinical phenomenologists must continue their efforts to describe the experiences of clinicians during encounters with patients, moving beyond the realm of encounters with patients considered to have psychotic issues. There should also be more rigorous focus on therapeutic implications.
