Abstract :
[en] The first critical edition (editio princeps) of a unique manuscript witness to a major historical text of the early fourteenth century Mamluk sultanate. Written by Shāfiʿ ibn ʿAlī (d. 1330), the text provides a unique account of the end of Sultan al-Nāṣir Muḥammad’s second reign and the very beginning of his third reign, covering the years 703-709/1304-1310. Besides the critical edition, the volume provides an extensive contextualization and commentary of each of the topics dealt with by the author, relying on contemporary and later Mamluk and other sources, to deepen our understanding of a pivotal moment in Mamluk history.
