Abstract :
[en] Cerebral amyloid angiopathy is a small vessel disease involved in intracerebral haemorrhage and cognitive decline, typically in elderly patients. It often overlaps with Alzheimer’s disease. The presented case describes the clinical course of a middle-aged woman who was hospitalised following transient focal sensory symptoms due to an acute subarachnoid haemorrhage. During her follow-up, she developed a slowly progressive cognitive impairment. She was then diagnosed with a probable cerebral amyloid angiopathy based on the Boston criteria 2.0. Additionally, biomarkers of the cerebrospinal fluid analysis showed a pattern suggestive of Alzheimer’s disease. After a review of the clinical presentations of cerebral amyloid angiopathy, magnetic resonance imaging biomarkers and their associated pathological findings will be discussed. The advantages and shortcomings of cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers analysis will then be examined. Given the young age at onset, genetic testing for a familial form will also be considered. Lastly, the interplay between cerebral amyloid angiopathy and Alzheimer’s disease, along with its therapeutical implications, will be analysed.
