Abstract :
[es] This article explores the contributions and points of common ground between the
Buenos Aires School of Semiotics, founded by Marita Soto, Oscar Traversa, Eliseo
Verón, and Oscar Steimberg, and interactionist and multimodal studies, with a
particular focus on those dedicated to the study of museum practices. Its aim is to
present a methodological proposal for the study of the physical-digital practices of art
museum visitors.
These perspectives, characterized by an anthropological and ethnographic approach,
have provided the theoretical and methodological foundations for our research,
conducted in two stages: between 2017 and 2020 and between 2022 and 2024,
including more than three periods of fieldwork in each museum that constitutes our
corpus: the Pompidou Center (Paris), Tate Modern (London), MoMA (New York), Malba
(Buenos Aires), and the Reina Sofia Museum (Madrid). The proposed methodology,
specially designed to analyze the relationship between the physical and digital spaces
of museum institutions, has been applied to study the use of cell phones in the
esplanades and entrance halls of the buildings. The present occasion offers a concise
illustration of the methodology, accompanied by preliminary conclusions from the
analysis conducted at the Pompidou Center from 2022 to 2024.
