Abstract :
[en] Towards New Coexistences explores how cities can become prototypes for integrating what they traditionally exclude—water, degraded soils, weeds, and non-human life. Framed by the metaphor of the “invisible garden,” the project argues for a shift from control to care, from exclusion to coexistence. Through two design-build workshops within the Trans Europe Halles network—Institut for (X) in Aarhus and Stanica in Žilina—the research develops two replicable urban prototypes. "In Love with Puddles" reimagines excess urban water as an ecological asset, proposing sponge-like spaces that absorb and integrate seasonal flooding. "Weeds Welcome" reconceives infrastructural and polluted soils as fertile grounds for regeneration, where pioneer species catalyse new territorial gardens. Together, these interventions position marginal urban spaces as laboratories for a regenerative, adaptive and more-than-human urbanism.
