Abstract :
[en] This retrospective single-center study aimed to identify the best mortality predictors in ICU patients admitted for pulmonary embolism (PE), given the limitations of the current ESC classification. Among 75 patients included between 2021-2024 (median age 64 years, 13.3% mortality at day 30), the SOFA score demonstrated the best predictive performance (AUC = 0.80), followed by lactate levels (AUC = 0.77) and NEWS2 (AUC = 0.75), all outperforming PE-specific scores such as PESI, sPESI, Bova, and modified FAST. Logistic regression confirmed SOFA as the most reliable predictor (OR = 1.33, p = 0.003), offering 90% sensitivity and 97.2% negative predictive value. These findings suggest that integrating the SOFA score into PE decision-making algorithms could improve risk stratification in critically ill patients.
