Abstract :
[en] Dated to the 19th dynasty, the papyrus of Bakenmut (BM EA 10478) is a luxurious manuscript known as one of the main witnesses of the Book of the Twelve Caves (BD 168). Some characteristics make this document an important source for the material history of the book. The name of its owner appears to have been erased by the application of a layer of pigment, making it one of the few possible reported examples of the reuse of a funerary manuscript. Three hieratic marginal notes with defective dates also testify to an ephemeral phase in its production process, perhaps a rereading. These notes complete the record of dates in New Kingdom literary manuscripts, allowing to rule out a systematic school context. They also suggest that the relatively rapid production of this object may have followed an irregular rhythm.
