[fr] Cet article présente la place du mouvement socialiste belge dans le mouvement ouvrier international durant la Deuxième Internationale, en soulignant son caractère exceptionnel et central, et en cherchant à le comprendre. Ce que nous nommons « l’exceptionnalité » du socialisme belge est un fait massif. Et pourtant, de récents ouvrages sur le socialisme – comme la Cambridge History of Socialism –, ne paraissent pas encore l’avoir intégré. En analysant cette réalité, on ne peut que constater la concordance entre les caractéristiques de la Belgique et celles du mouvement socialiste à la fin du XIXe siècle [en] This article presents the place of the Belgian socialist movement in the international labor movement during the Second International, highlighting its exceptional and central character and seeking to understand it. What we call the “exceptionality” of Belgian socialism is a massive fact. And yet, recent works on socialism—such as the Cambridge History of Socialism—do not yet seem to have taken this into account. When analyzing this reality, one cannot help but notice the similarities between the characteristics of Belgium and those of the socialist movement at the end of the 19th century.
