[en] The templating effects in the growth of phthalocyanine polymorphic double-layer system by organic molecular beam deposition was investigated. The structure and morphology of the second layer was influenced very strongly by the properties of the first layer, independent of the growth conditions used to deposit the second layer. The templating effects extend to structures involving more than two layers that is likely to operate in the growth of multilayer heterostructures, when two different types of molecular material are used. The templating effects will have a profound influence on the consequential electronic and optical properties of a heterostructure-based device.
