Abstract :
[en] Objectives: Cancer and oncological treatments can have profound repercussions on patients' sexual function and intimacy, yet these aspects are often overlooked in clinical practice. This study aims to assess the information provided to patients and their satisfaction with it, as well as to examine the impact of cancer and its treatments on their sexual health. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional survey was conducted with 317 patients in a university radiotherapy-oncology department, using an anonymous questionnaire. Results: The results show that sexual health is an important issue for 74.3% of the surveyed patients, with no significant distinction based on gender, age, marital status, or treatment stage. However, a significant proportion of patients feel they have not been adequately informed. There is also a significant decrease in the importance placed on sexuality after a cancer diagnosis, as well as a decrease in the frequency of sexual intercourse and an increase in sexual difficulties encountered by patients. These changes are associated with factors such as gender, age, type of treatment received, and timing of diagnosis. The distress of many patients is highlighted. Conclusion: Cancer treatments have a notable influence on patients' sexual health as well as their overall well-being, potentially affecting their partners as well. Awareness of these implications is necessary to improve the management of these patients. This entails better communication and a holistic approach.
