Abstract :
[en] In Symm. or. 1 the topos of the connection between the landscape and the emperor becomes the main theme of the praise of Valentinian I; Valentinian’s greatness consists in his direct knowledge of the imperial territories and in his education, given by nature itself. Symmachus’ use of the topoi of the practiced genre aims at depicting the emperor as a man who finds his own homeland in the Romania in its whole extension.
