For its 40th birthday, the Belgian Bone Club in Osteoporosis welcomes interdisciplinary research looking at the future of ageing. In this talk, we consider the link between architectural design and health-care through history: how, at first, architecture has mainly being shaped according to our understanding of illnesses and how, more recently, we scientifically assess how a diversity of architectural typologies might affect our health. The talk then opens towards the study of housing for the elderly, and the current need to move beyond a mere hygienist / safe / accessible approach when designing with an eye for growing old.
