Abstract :
[en] This chapter addresses some of the strengths and challenges of using quantitative data in research on migration. It draws attention on the specificities of quantitative research, while underlying some key opportunities that it provides for tackling research questions related to migration. The chapter also outlines some methodological challenges derived from the endeavour of rigorously quantifying the multi-faceted migration phenomena. It reflects on aspects regarding the operationalisation and interpretation of migration trajectories and realities, the process of making inferences, the time and costs to be considered in quantitative migration research, and data harmonisation issues especially in comparative cross-national and/or longitudinal designs.
