[en] Cercospora leaf spot disease (CLS) cause by Cercospora beticola is the greatest threat to sugar beet production. Synthetic chemical pesticides have been frequently used to combat this
pathogen. Their use raise concerns regarding health and environmental issues. Alternatives are therefore being developed. Amongst these are found biopesticides based on the use of
essential oils.
CERCOIL therefore aims at developing an essential oil based biopesticide not only effective against Cercospora beticola but also adapted to standard application tools, to the context of
sugar beet crops and above all to the sugar beet per se (ie. no phytotoxicity)!
