Abstract :
[en] The chemical composition of the cornea is sufficiently known to form the basis of physiological research. The chemical reactions taking place in this tissue are relatively slow. The permeability of the cornea with regard to oxygen, carbonic anhydrid and various mineral salts has been the object of many experiments. The results obtained are partly contradictory, due to the extreme difficulty inherent in the technique. The pathological modifications in the composition of the cornea have been the object of interesting clinical research. Unfortunately, the most careful observation could in most cases register a final stage, the result of pathological phenomena, the cause of which remains obscure. © 1940 S. Karger AG, Basel.
