Kom Ombo; ancien empire; scellés et sceaux égyptiens
Abstract :
[en] In March 2020 we undertook a first study of the OK and FIP seal impressions found so far by the Joint Austrian and Egyptian Mission at Kom Ombo. As a result three categories emerged, according to which the corpus of nearly 280 specimens can be intersected: 1) Numerous non-royal cylinder sealings spanning the time from the early Old Kingdom to the 5th dynasty, 2) around 40 royal cylinder sealings from the 5th dynasty and 3) stamp sealings from the First Intermediate Period. Besides those a small number of hieratic inscriptions on the sealing clay have been identified. The objects sealed range from wooden boxes, vessels and bags to papyrus scrolls and door belts.
During the study of the inscriptions several kings names, titles and institutions could be identified, among them the pr-Sna of OK Kom Ombo. This sheds new light on the early history of Kom Ombo and its economic status in OK and FIP Egypt. The presentation aims thus to present, discuss and contextualise our preliminary results.
