Abstract :
[en] A low dose neoadjuvant chemotherapy was given to 258 consecutive head and neck cancer patients. A 3/4 tumour reduction appeared to be critical to obtain subsequently a maximum result by radiotherapy. Through logistic discriminant analysis an algorithm gave the probability of chemotherapy response for each individual clinical situation. Tested prospectively in 97 further patients, the model was fully validated. Choice of the better appropriate treatment e.g. radical surgery versus exclusive radiotherapy is possible at the very time of staging.
