[en] The topic of the nose and the complex meaning attributed to the sense of smell recur continually in Luigi Capuana’s short stories. They accompany the development of his poetics and method from the physiognomic determinism of the1870s to the humoristic turn at the beginning of the twentieth century. This essay offers a reading of the short story entitled Il caso di Emilio Roxa from an intertextual stand point and with regard to the relationship between Capuana and Pirandello.
