Abstract :
[en] Chemical pesticides have long been considered the most effective means of controlling crop pests. Although their effectiveness is obvious, their negative impact on the environment is increasingly discussed. In contrast, biopesticides offer the advantage of being naturally occurring, biodegradable, more or less selective and harmless against non-target organisms.Biopesticides are categorised in several ways, depending on whether they are of plant, animal or microbial origin. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), their use is still timid. However, biopesticides can be a way to promote sustainable agriculture that is accessible to low-income farmers.Although some performed experiments with plant extracts and bacteria are not yet being used on a large scale, biopesticides are certainly an alternative to chemical pesticides in the DRC.
