Le système rénine-angiotensine-aldostérone (SRAA) est une élégante cascade d’hormones et d’enzymes régulant la pression artérielle. Ses principales composantes ont été identifiées entre la fin du 19ème siècle et l’année 2000 (découverte de l’enzyme de conversion de l’angiotensine de type 2). Comme dans toute légende, la saga du SRAA est rythmée par le succès mais aussi par les échecs de nombreux chercheurs. Dans cette synthèse historique, nous amenons le lecteur dans un voyage dans le temps pour rappeler certains faits inspirant les découvertes du SRAA. La pandémie actuelle du COVID-19 et le tropisme particulier du SARS CoV2 pour l’enzyme de conversion (ACE-2) de l’angiotensine II, ont remis les feux des projecteurs sur le puzzle du système rénine angiotensine aldostérone [en] Abstract
The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) is an elegant cascade of hormones and enzymes regulating blood pressure. Its essential components were identified between the end of the 19th century and the year 2000 (discovery of the conversion enzyme of type 2 angiotensin). As in any legend, the saga of the RAAS is punctuated by success but also the defeats of many researchers. In this historical review, we take the reader on a journey back in time to recall some of the highlights inspiring the discoveries of the RAAS.The current COVID-19 pandemic and the particular tropism of SARS CoV2 for the angiotensin II conversion enzyme (ACE-2) have put the spotlight back on the puzzle of the angiotensin aldosterone renin system
