[en] The aim of this study is to analyze the spatio-temporal dynamics of the urbanization phenomenon in the city of Bujumbura. We conducted this analysis based on six Landsat images acquired between 1986 and 2019 by the cartographic approach coupled with landscape ecology tools. The results reveal that over the last three decades, the proportion of built area has quadrupled, to the detriment in particular of vegetation, the proportion of which is reduced by half. The observed landscape dynamics is the result of anthropization illustrated by the dissection of vegetation, as opposed to the creation of built patches. The bare soil was relatively stable in the studied landscape. These spatial transformations of Bujumbura urban landscape compromise the sustainability of the ecosystem services provided by green spaces.
