La finzione tra regimi di credenza e dispositivi di rappresentazione. Alcune considerazioni sul cinema di Ari Folman

This contribution aims to discuss two general accounts of fiction as they have been introduced in semiotics and in audiovisual studies. In the first part we will illustrate the first one. Following this, fiction and semiotic function seem to overlap – and, more generally, to be connected with the notion of representation. This perspective allows and leads us to examine the role of the substances of expression in signification processes. In the second part we will discuss the other account of fiction. This conceives it as a peculiar regime of belief, different from those of documentary, of didactics, of game. Our goal consists in deepening the rhetorical operations in contemporary audiovisual production, i.e. to examine the way in which the different substances of expression intertwine with different regimes of belief in order to increase the narrative efficacy and the persuasive force of audiovisual texts. The analysis of some sequences of Valzer con Bashir and The Congress will contribute to make manifest these mechanisms, which rely on the relation between the two accounts of fiction we discussed.
