Abstract :
[en] Dr Lind, a British naval surgeon observed thousands of cases of scurvy, typhus, and dysentery and the conditions on board ship that caused them. Lind compared the effects of citrus fruits on patients with scurvy against five alternative remedies, showing that the fruit was noticeably better than vinegar, cider, seawater, and other remedies. This was probably one of the first examples of a successfull clinical trial in Medicine. This first course summarizes basic in clinical trials, human experimentation and their application in rare diseases and big data.
