After two years as a secondary school teacher and a career as an university professor, Albert Pis­sart explains not only the reasons why he chose physical geography but also the more recent divergence of physical geography, notably geomorphology, from human geography. Neverthe­less, and in total agreement with Madame Mérenne, he has always championed the unity of the geographical discipline.
