[fr] De 2014 à 2018, les manifestations commémoratives de toutes sortes en mémoire des combattants et des victimes de la Grande Guerre se sont multipliées. Ce spectacle, «La Guerre de nos Pères», s’inscrit dans cette perspective en relatant les épisodes de la Première Guerre dans l'entité de Theux-Marché (Belgique).
Il s’agit néanmoins de dépasser un abord simpliste et nationaliste des événements à travers un cas particulier. Cette guerre fut celle de nos pères, de nos aïeux, mais aussi celle d'hommes un peu oubliés, les Pères lazaristes de Marché, Allemands exilés en Belgique tiraillés entre leurs origines et leur terre d’adoption. Un second dépassement, chronologique, consiste à évoquer le triste souvenir de l’épidémie de grippe espagnole qui ravagea l’Europe en 1918-1919, causant encore plus de morts que la guerre.
Histoire locale d’un conflit mondial, à la fois drame et comédie, la pièce de théâtre, couplée avec un spectacle son et lumière, a pris lieu entre les murs de l’Institut Saint-Roch à Theux, les 27 et 28 avril 2019.
[en] From 2014 to 2018, commemorative events of all kinds took place in memory of the fighters and the victims of the Great War. This theater play, «La Guerre de nos Pères» (“Our Fathers’ War”), is part of this perspective, proposing to relate the episodes of the First World War in the entity of Theux-Marché (Belgium).
The play nevertheless intends to go beyond a simplistic and nationalist approach to the events through a particular case. This war was our forefathers’ war, but was also the war of men a little forgotten, the Lazarist Fathers of Marché. These German clerics were exiled in Belgium, then torn between their origins and their adopted land during the war. A second, chronological, overcoming consists in evoking the sad memory of the Spanish flu epidemic that ravaged Europe in 1918-1919, causing even more deaths than the war.
A local history of a world conflict, both drama and comedy, “Our Fathers’ War”, coupled with a sound and light show, took place within the walls of the Institut Saint-Roch Theux, on April 27 and 28, 2019.
